Tri Club San Diego–what a valuable resource for triathletes (and those aspiring to be) and is conveniently located in Ludus Tours’ headquarter city! Last week Brian Melekian and I caught up with Thomas Johnson, TCSD President, for lunch and heard about some exciting happenings with the club and events coming to sunny San Diego soon.
TCSD is one of the largest and oldest triathlon clubs in the world. With over 3k members, this tri club does a great job of giving the best back to its members through complimentary workouts, mock events, discounts, speakers, social events, etc. Their monthly workout calendar has over 150 events to choose from—most of which are free and often led by world-class coaches dedicating their time and knowledge to the community.
Last week I participated in a TCSD track and pool workout—both of which had over 50 people in attendance from all age groups and levels of talent. We did drills and technique first and then were coached through a workout. As a former collegiate track athlete, we went through some hurdle drills that were completely new to me—my favorite was going over-under hurdles with our eyes shut. Quite humorous to watch and among many benefits of this drill, having your eyes shut naturally makes you do a deeper squat because you try to avoid hitting your head under the hurdle. Maybe we will take some of these drills with us to London next year when we do workouts with our Triathlon Tours group during the 2012 Summer Games!
